Senior Sales and Business Development Executive

To support the further growth of the Company, Metrion is looking for an enthusiastic scientific professional to assist with its sales, marketing and business development activities. The successful candidate will report to Dr Andrew Southan, Metrion’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). The role will suit a motivated, self-starter willing to devote a significant amount of time to arranging and presenting at client meetings and networking at conferences. The candidate will work closely with the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), the COO and the senior scientific team to identify and secure new fee for service clients and collaboration partners for the Company. While based at the Company’s premises at Granta Park, Cambridge, the successful candidate will be expected to spend a substantial proportion of their time out of the office prospecting leads, meeting potential customers and marketing the Company at appropriate scientific conferences.

The position carries the following responsibilities:

– Work with the COO and CSO to develop and implement Metrion Biosciences’ sales, marketing and branding strategy.

– Identify and pursue new customers for the Company’s fee-for-service CRO business and to secure new long-term FTE-based research collaborations.

– Understand the science behind Metrion’s commitment to high quality ion channel screening services, and be able to  -represent this to clients alone or as part of a team.

– Represent the company at domestic and international conferences and partnering events.

The Candidate

We are looking for a highly self-motivated candidate who combines some experience of business development or sales and marketing in the life science sector with suitable scientific qualifications (e.g. postgraduate degree). Ideally, the candidate will have expertise in ion channel research and/or drug discovery, and a minimum of several years’ successful sales or business development experience. To facilitate Metrion’s continued growth we are seeking candidates with a strong entrepreneurial drive, able to operate independently and make the commitment required of a key member of the Company’s management team. The position calls for high integrity, a commitment to excellence and good interpersonal skills.


The salary is negotiable and will be based upon the candidates experience and achievements. In addition, there will be a performance related bonus structure, based upon his or her individual contribution to the business.
